Yesterday I have watched Locke, an excellent psychological movie (thanks to Kuba for the recommendation!). The main protagonist - Ivan Locke, hence the title - travels in a car, having urgent matters awaiting his attention both at his destination and back home. Thus, he spends the whole ride engaging in various phone calls. The kind the audience would prefer not to have...

I like this kind of movie, inflicting a sense of catharsis - one feels together with the main character but at the end is relieved not to be in his situation. That alone would suffice to make Locke a valuable experience. But there was one more thing which got my attention. The whole movie takes place inside Ivans car. There are no other characters visible, they only exist as voices coming from a hands-free set. Although the whole ride is very short (on-screen time corresponds to the real time), Locke feels like a small-scale road movie, together with the aura of freedom. Sure, there are things to be taken care of and Ivan spends most of the time doing exactly this - but ultimately, all his problems lie before or behind him, now he simply drives.

This reminds me of the feeling I get traveling to my hometown by bus (16 hours) - it's a very tiresome experience but at the same time a liberating and relaxing one. Everything stressful was or will be, now you can only look trough the window and think. Or watch a random movie starring Jennifer Lopez.
